Wikispaces
What is a Wikispace?
A Wikispace is a webpage that you can create! Making this site allows you to add, modify or delete information at your own pleasure. The site also allows you to organize information very easily, and have multiple people contribute to the site at the same time. One of the great aspects of a Wikispace is that it has a complete history of every edit made to the page. This means you can keep track of what exactly is going on on your page at all times. You also have the option of making your page either public or private depending on what you prefer.
Wikispaces in the Classroom
A Wikispace could be used as a classroom website where students, teachers and parents are able to collaborate. Wikispaces can be used in the classroom in many different ways. Teachers are able to use these to post homework assignments, classroom goals, updates to parents and even photographs and videos. Students can use the Wiki to collaborate on class projects, post their work, ask questions or post things suitable for the classroom from the web. Parents also get to enjoy using the Wiki! They can receive updates on what the class is learning and also view their child's work in a fast and easy way.
A Wikispace would be a great asset to any classroom in the 6-8 grade range. I believe students would really enjoy getting the chance to contribute to a classroom website and it's an easy way for teachers to assess and have work already saved to the computer. Students in this grade range often have a better understanding of using technologies and editing works online. I highly recommend looking into getting a Wiki for your room!

A Wikispace could be used in the classroom as a classroom website. Students and parents could read about what was going on in class and stay up to date. They could also view pictures or work being done in the classroom at that time. It is an easy way for teachers to stay connected with students and parents at home.

Group Projects
Using a Wikispace to work on projects is a great way to get students to collaborate. It's an easy way for students to share their ideas with one another and post inspiration for the project online. Students can also edit and modify their project whenever they want whether it be at school or from home.

Post Readings & Assignments
Another way to incorporate a Wikispace into your classroom would be to post readings and assignments for the week onto it. Students would be able to use this during class to read articles and work on assignments that are posted. Students that are absent would also be able to stay up to date by checking the Wikispace.
